Countless times we walk among the streets, whether its during the day or night. We walk pass them and stare but never lend a helping hand with our own hands. Sure there are few that will donate their changes to their empty cup or quarter filled coffee cups found in several garbage’s. There are also those that open shelters for the homeless so that they can sleep the night and even get fed but the numbers of homeless has raised up tremendously. There are no rooms that why they had no choice but to sleep on the streets of the sidewalk, park benches and sometimes public washrooms.
Why were there such an increase? Was it because of the job cut backs. Or they simply lost in a gamble and invested everything they own and became bankrupt. We won’t know what ever happen to them. Unless one of us actually have the guts to sit next to them and ask why.
Who here walks along the St.Andrew subway path? There were a few number of times that some one had open the door for passengers and workers to walk through the door asking for spare change. I have witnessed that a lot of us didn’t bother to give any change. Too lazy to open doors our selves that we simply walk through any door that is open to us. It’s just chunk change folks. Why not spare them the change? Since most pennies and dimes all goes on the floors somewhere around the world. We don’t care for change but for those that has limit fianances and don’t have anything at all besides the clothes they wear on their back, ripped up shoes and all smelling like a dumpster. They care for change because they need it.
The faces that I see everyday are regular customers but I also see regular homeless people as well. Sometimes when I do get a chance. I make a few stop by and drop some change in their cups. They all open their eyes in awe and smile with glee. Followed by thank you, you have a great day now. Other times I will take left over food and since it was going to get wasted. I give them to the homeless. What is the harm in giving a little. You receive greatness in just seeing them smile at you because you made a little bit of difference in their life.
So I really do advise that we can’t just focus on our busy life and just caring for those of us like us. Homeless people count as well because we are all human beings.
